Books And Beats 3/20

Happy Monday, friends! Here at The Five Sixteen Co. we have a mission to equip you with truth and resources to let your light shine -- so, we're popping in to do just that! Here are a few books, beats (music), and Bible verses to carry you through the week.

Books we're loving:

Praying the Bible by Donald Whitney

I was recording a podcast episode today (new season coming soon!) and was reminded of this incredible resource. Written by one of my former seminary professors, Dr. Whitney, this book walks you through a simple method for praying through Scripture. If you're feeling like your prayer time is dry or unfocused, or if you're wanting to grow in your knowledge of the Word, I highly recommend this resource. It is simple, accessible, and applicable - and it will certainly help you draw near to the Lord in prayer.

When the Darkness Will Not Lift by John Piper

This recommendation stems from another conversation I had recently about Christians and mental health. How should Christians navigate dark seasons of anxiety and depression? In one of his shortest books (only 79 pages!), Piper offers words of comfort and guidance, rooted in Scripture and his own experiences, that are a balm to the weariest of souls.

Beats we can't get enough of:

Future Forever by Jonathan Ogden

Jonathan Ogden's music is fresh, infused with Scripture, and provides a perfect soundtrack for your morning commute or afternoon coffee shop work session. His newest album, Future Forever, features some incredible collaborations with other indie/Christian artists. The last track, Always Will Be, is by far the song I've returned to the most. Check it out and be sure to follow Jonathan on TikTok/Instagram for some hilarious Christian memes as well.

Adonai by Josh Adams

Josh has been a joy to follow the past couple of years. He has a clear passion for the Lord, evident in the lyrics he crafts. His songs are beautifully, honest, hopeful, and simple enough to sing along to. His latest release Adonai is just that. Don't miss what this guy is doing - I'm certain the Lord will use him in a mighty way for the sake of the kingdom.

Bible verses we're meditating on:

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.” - 1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬-‭9‬
