Books And Beats 3/6

Happy Monday, friends! Here at The Five Sixteen Co. we have a mission to equip you with truth and resources to let your light shine -- so, we're popping in to do just that! Here are a few books, beats (music), and Bible verses to carry you through the week.

Books we're loving:

The Meaning of Marriage by Tim Keller

Whether you're single, dating, or married - I truly believe this book has something to teach you. I first read it a few years ago (in a "single" stage), and recently picked it up again as I am dating and considering marriage. I've gleaned different things each time! Keller writes in a really accessible way, with stories and examples that flesh out the topics he discusses. I'm impressed by the timeless nature of the content and by the continuous focusing back to Scripture.

Insecure in Love by Leslie Becker-Phelps

If you're on social media, you've probably seen or heard "attachment styles" mentioned in a TikTok, Reel, or infographic at least once. You might even already know if you're "anxious," "avoidant," or "secure" in your attachment to others. I began listening to this on Audible this week - and it has been really insightful so far. While this book isn't written from an explicitly Christian perspective, it does offer insight into the psychology behind this theory and offers grace-filled ways to process emotions and grow towards becoming more securely attached in your relationships with others.

Beats we can't get enough of:

To Be Enchanted by Sleeping At Last

"To Be Enchanted" is the second song to be released from Sleeping at Last's newest collection of songs called "Mother" (in honor of his mom who passed away last year). I've been a Sleeping At Last fan for a long time; Ryan O'Neil writes, composes, and produces with such depth. His lyrics cut to the deepest emotions of the human experience, and the accompanying music carries his words along with a beauty beyond words. If you're in a season of grief or sorrow, I highly recommend following along as Ryan releases the rest of this project. And if you want to dig deeper into the song, Ryan tells the story of it on his podcast, here.

Holy Place: Behold Him (Live) by Revere, Citizens, and Mission House

This live EP released back in September 2021, and each of the four songs are absolutely beautiful - there's something so rich and raw about live recordings. I believe a truly good live album translates the emotion of the room, and this EP does that. It's a personal favorite of mine, one that I return to over and over because it holds my favorite versions of the songs "Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me" and "Behold Him" - be sure to give them a listen!

Bible verses we're meditating on:

“I will turn their mourning into joy.” - Jeremiah 31:13
